Foreigners Who Came to Kenya as refugees or to seek for Greener Pastures and Made it Big in the local Showbiz Scene

Kenya is home to many foreigners who fled their war torn countries to seek refuge in our relatively peaceful country. Others came in search of fame and fortune and have since made it big time in the showbiz industry….
Here is the list of big time celebrities who kick started their careers in Kenya

Kidum: Burundi
Jean Pierre Nimbona aka Kidum fled Burundi at the height of the violence that rocked the country in 1994. The awarding artist has made a name in Kenya as one of the most talented RnB musician. His catchy love ballads include Mpenzi, Nitafanya and Namba Moja.
Dan Sserunkuma
He is one of the most dependable striker in the Gor Mahia squad. Dan Ssserunkuma enjoys a near fanatical following from the green army fans. The Ugandan played a pivotal role in ensuring the team lifted the KPL trophy that had eluded them for 18 years.
Emmanuel Jal: War Child
He has traversed the World campaigning for peace in his warring country Sudan-now Southern Sudan. Jal journey started in Kenya where he recorded his first song while in school. The hip hop artists has gone to mesmerize the world with his tight lines. The Sudanese icon has performed alongside the late Amy Winehouse, Will Smith and other renowned artists to mark Nelson Mandela 90th birthday in London.
Longombas: The Twins Brothers
The twins wowed us with some of the most danceable hits to date. The duo have also won numerous awards including the Kora Awards for Best East African Group, Kisima Music Awards for Best Group from Kenya & Boomba Group & Best Song from Kenya & Social responsibility. The Brothers are from DRC.
Chameleon and Bebe Cool
The two Ugandan artistes nurtured their talents in Kenya before moving to Uganda. Kenya provided the platform the artists needed to be the big stars they are today.
Angela Chibalonza
Before she met her untimely death in a road accident, Angelina Chibalonza was a big name in the gospel music circles. The talented Congolese artist who was based in Kenya was behind the hits Mwisho wa Dunia and Ninapotembea that were huge successes in East and Central Africa. Angela was famous in Kenya than her home country.
