Non Locals In Mandera Camp At KDF Airstrip After Reports Emerged That Their Houses Had Being Marked For Possible Attack By Al Shabaab Terrorists…

Hounded by the possibility of being attacked by the Al Shabaab militia, hundreds of non-locals working in Mandera are now fleeing their homes for the Kenya Defence Forces airstrip. The residents who have been at the airstrip since Monday night say they feel safe there compared to the AP camp.

One of the workers is reported to have told a local daily: “We feel safe here than at the AP camp,” when the deputy County Commissioner, Mr Elvis Korir, tried to persuade them to move. Teachers, health workers, civil servants and construction workers are living in fear after reports filtered that Al Shabaab informers had marked their houses with intentions of attacking them. Workers union like KNUT has asked their members to move from Mandera and other volatile areas with immediate effect.
Public service vehicles plying the routes and flights from Mandera are fully booked.
