According to his relatives, Meshack was kidnapped in Turbo trading centre and driven away in two cars. They reported the matter to Turbo and Eldoret police stations who they have accused of carrying shoddy investigations.
Mr Ken Wafula, a Rights Activists, claimed that the killing was State sponsored and asked the ICC to provide witness protection to the remaining witnesses. The activists by local daily as saying;
“There is a hit squad out to eliminate ICC witnesses and human rights officials accused of coaching witnesses to testify before the Hague-based court,” said Mr Wafula.
He sent a text message in Kalenjin to the family that read:
“abwati ale ichamegei, kwawe Uganda urgently. kimi ak ngamotik cheb bensouda nekile patrick ak lugusa. ami komie, mosich wasiwasi. meshack ako namba nenyu ni. (I hope you are okay, I went to Uganda urgently. I am with Bensouda’s people Patrick and Lugusa. This is . . . I am alright don’t worry and this is my number’). The message originated from phone number 256-773125351.
The deceased sister Clara Yebei told the media that her brother had revealed to them that his life was in danger after differing with some people over the ICC cases.
