Sad News: Electricity Connection Charges Still The Same, Only Genuine Slum Dwellers To Benefit From the Sh1,160 Subsidy……

Kenyans rejoiced on social media when it was announced that electricity connection fee had been slashed from Sh35,000 to Sh1,160. The company has come out to state that the charges still stand and only slum dwellers will benefit from the arrangement.
This clarification was necessitated after KPLC was bombarded with inquiries on the new rates. KPLC said through a press release:

“The management wishes to clarify that the subsidised charge of Sh1,160 for each connection under the Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid (GPOBA) programme is only applicable for qualifying residents of the slums/informal settlements.”

The company stated that the program was launched in partnership with World Bank to solve illegal connections that are the norm in slums across Nairobi since they cannot afford to pay the exorbitant connection charges.

GPOBA and the World Bank contributed Sh 11,970 and Sh 19,350 respectively.
