President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto top advisers are yet to agree on names to take plum parastatal jobs, a local weekly reveals. It is emerging that Uhuru advisers are dissatisfied with the list presented by the DP men as it is dominated by members from the Kalenjin region with a small fraction from the pastoralist region. This is in effect fails the stipulated regional balance as envisaged by the constitution.
Uhuru is wary of such appointments with the next election in mind he will be forced to reach out to other regions. This is said to be the reason why the appointments of the key parastatal jobs is still pending. The President men have presented a list of names that have a more regional outlook. Already the contracts of parastatal heads and board members have expired.

The contentious Ruto list is biased to members of his Kalenjin moreso his political cronies in his URP party. The DP has come under heavy criticism especially form South Rift region and what a better way of appeasing them by dishing out the plum parastatal jobs.
Ruto list has left out members of the Nyanza, Eastern, Western, Coast and Nairobi regions and this will generate a lot of heat from Cord if the President allows himself to be arm twisted. Over 70 parastatals have no boards and more than 100 operate without chairpersons CEOs and MDs. Ruto, according to the weekly, is intent on appointing only individuals who are loyal to them and not moles of Cord.
The two coalition partners will share the slots on a 50:50 basis and Ruto camp will be keen using CS allied to URP to make appointments after the President showed defiance. The CS have the power under the law to make appointments and renew contracts.
URP and TNA have also disagreed on who between the two coalitions should take the KRA commissioner general slot after the John Njiraini’s term expires this month and the CBK slot fell vacant. TNA is keen on Central Bank while URP can settle for the KRA slot.
