Mt. Kenya TNA MPs have declared war on suspended Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko and have vowed that he won’t be Nairobi governor in 2017. The MPs went ahead to endorse Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru to run for governor seat.
The MPs met at the Sarova Panafric Hotel where they strategized on countering the popularity of Sonko. It is at the meeting that the Mt Kenya MPs reached a consensus that they will ‘support one of their own’.
Ndaragwa MP Waweru Nderitu was quoted by a section of the media as saying:
We agreed in principle that our interests in the city are very significant and we shall favor a leadership that looks able and stabilize the city economic situation. We opted for Waweru and not the senator”.
The MPs said for them to capture the top city seat they will require the support of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and it was upon them to successfully woo him to their side:
“Looking at our numbers, we shall require Mr Musyoka on board at the national level so that we can also get into a deal with his community for the top city seats”, said one MP.
Sonko has not made his stand but he can ditch Jubilee for CORD if the political war does not simmer down. He has options of working of CORD being a political heavyweight in the city politics.
