Ruto has been mired in corruption allegations and an unprecedented rebellion in his backyard by Governors and MPs from his own party. Central MPs, who met in Nyeri, are said to have discussed the possibility of the President ditching Ruto for Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi as his running mate in 2017.

The legislators are of the opinion that Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi are a real threat and will whittle the DPs support. This is said to be the reason why the President has been on a charm offensive in Western Kenya.

The President can sail easily in 2017 if Mudavadi is able to galvanize support in Western Kenya.
