Popular television talk show host Jeff Koinange got a rude reawakening when he was arrested by two uniformed police officers outside his house on Tuesday morning. Koinange, who drove himself to court and the two police officers, was arraigned before Milimani magistrate.
A warrant of arrest had been issued against the baritone voiced Koinange and razor tongued no hold bars businessman Tony Gachoka for not obeying court orders after failing to stop an execution of the arrest warrant on Monday.
The two were expected to answer charges of discussing businessman Jimi Wanjigi, Sani Mbui Wanjigi and Kwacha Group of Companies Limited on ‘Jeff Koinange Live’ that airs on KTN even after being barred by the court from doing the same prompting Nairobi Senior Magistrate Maisy Chesang to issue the arrest order.
The complaints, Mr Wanjigi, Sani Mbui Wanjigi and Kwacha Group Companies Limited, had obtained orders barring KTN and Standard Media Group from either publishing or broadcasting defamatory statements relating to them and the company.
Part of the magistrate ruling read:
“A warrant of arrest is issued against the two respondents for failing to honour the summons to appear in court. The warrant will be effected through the complainants’ advocates”
Through their lawyer Nicholas Nyamai, the company wants to be compensated Sh60 million for defamation.
