The much hyped Sonko Rescue Team is facing financial hardship and may not even be operational. Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko had launched the project to offer free services to city dwellers. Nairobi residents were to benefit with free ambulance, breakdown and a host of other free services.
The flamboyant senator however rubbished the rumors stating that the project was up and running. He was quoted by the Nairobi News as saying:
“Those suggesting the rescue team is no longer working are our enemies. Infact, I am just from Dubai, where well wishers have promised to donate 10 more ambulances and six fire engines towards…….”
“When I work, they question my source of wealth and when I assume a low profile, they allege I have gone bankrupt. I am used to this….”
Sonko’s rescue team has been facing challenges with some of the staff members downing their tools over alleged non-payment of salaries.
What is however evident is that Sonko Rescue Team was not a sustainable project and it was just a matter of time before it faced financial difficulties. Sonko has claimed that he was in Dubai recently and was promised 10 ambulances and six fire engines.
