Vocal supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto, Adan Duale, is under siege after MPs from Nyeri County vowed to remove him as the National Majority Leader if he does not release names of alleged terror sympathizers.
The ire by the MPs was sparked by the recent attack in Mandera Town that saw 14 men, mostly from Nyeri, brutally killed by Al Shabaab militants.
The ire directed on Duale was sparked when he led a group of leaders from North Eastern region in promising that he will hand over names of Al Shabaab terrorists and their financiers after the deadly raid at the Garissa University College.
A statement read Nyeri TNA MPs Priscilla Nyokabi (Nyeri woman rep), Kanini Kega (Kieni) and Peter Weru (Mathira) on behalf of other leaders from the county, including Ndung’u Gethenji (Tetu), Mary Wambui (Othaya), Esther Murugi (Nyeri Town) and Kabando wa Kabando (Mukurweini) and Senator Mutahi Kagwe read in part:
“The pledge…is still a pipe dream. How do we trust somebody who says things for populism even when such verbiage wrecks livelihoods? We demand that he either shapes up or quits….”
The tough stance on terrorism by the US means that he won’t be accommodated in Barrrack Obama itinerary. Duale sentiments on homosexuality may also put him in the bad books of the Americans.
