The political landscape is bound to change in favour of Jubilee in Western Kenya if leaders from the region led by former Speaker of the National Assembly Marende make good their threat to ditch ODM.
Marende, who has been appointed as the chair of the Kenya Power board by the Jubilee administration, said that the community will find itself in the political cold if they associated themselves with ODM come the 2017 polls.
He went on to say that the community had supported Raila in the last two presidential elections and he lost in both polls.
Marende castigated ODM for being too preoccupied with Raila’s presidency in 2017 and in the process forgetting the interests of the voters in regions that overwhelmingly supported him 2013.

“It is clear that Luhyas have no room in Cord and their support for Raila Odinga in 2017 will be another big mistake….”
The former Speaker, who was accompanied by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, ODM national youth leader Rashid Muhammed and Mahiakalo ward representative Cleophas Malala, said that consultations are in top gear to see who will run for the presidency in 2017.
“Even if we don’t get the presidency, I can assure you we will have our share when the next government is formed and that is what we are focusing on as leaders from the western region
“That is why we have come up with the United Democratic Party which seeks to unite the communities from western Kenya and ensure they register in large numbers as voters to determine the region’s political future,” said Mr Marende.
