Gor Mahia Buys A Clown Calls Him A Top Strike
The year was 2013. The venue was Nairobi City Stadium. The new Gor acquisition was one Giovani Bissolli Rodrigues from Brazil. The excitement was palpable as hundreds of enthusiastic K’Ogalo fans turned up to welcome their top notch striker. The wave seemed to rub in on publication too. A popular football blog Goal.com described Gor’s move as:
Kenya Premier League (KPL) side Gor Mahia have sealed a historic swoop for Brazilian forward - Giovanni Rodriguez Bissolli- who becomes the first player from outside Africa to sign and play for a Kenyan side.
Of course some started questioning the rationale of signing a 25 year old player who had a pot belly-one could have easily confused him with the clubs coach. He was slow on the ball and could not even dribble. His performance was lethargic at best forcing the Brazilian to exit the scene unceremoniously.
Fast forward to 2016. The script is almost the same except for the players. Their Brazilian tactician José Marcelo Ferreira aka ‘Ze Maria’ elicited excitement when he imported a ‘top notch striker’ from his the South American country.
The left footed Thiago Lima Dasilva is a little known striker until his arrival in Kenya. The only notable club Dasilva has played for is Corinthians B side.
Gor officials have no clue who the player is and only signed him after the coach recommended him. What is clear Dasilva will suffer the same fate Rogridues did.
