News that the newly formed Jubilee Party is sending its steering committee officials to China for a month long training has come under condemnation from a section of Kenyans.
The party officials will undergo training from the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC)- the founding and the ruling political party of the People's Republic of China.
CPC has ruled China for 67 years and Jubilee wants to replicate the same from the second largest party in the world commanding 88.76 million members.
So what does CPC stand for and what does Jubilee stand to learn? Here are worrying facts:
Harassment of political activists
Jubilee Party is keen on silencing political activists who have proved to be a thorn on the flesh of the Uhuru led government. With the new constitution in place, Kenyans enjoy a wider political space to the chagrin of the ruling elite. China has detained many political dissidents-and some, like Li Heping, have gone missing. Jubilee is seemingly keen on learning how to deal with activists once and for all.
China control of both the traditional and new media is what authoritarian regimes are made of. CPC has perfected the act of shuttering websites, jailing of bloggers, activists and journalists who hold contrary views to those espoused by the ruling party. Uhuru’s government has been exposed to many corruption dealings that have even touched the Deputy President William Ruto. Kenyans have on numerous occasions taken to the social media to expose the rot in the government. The new partnership with CPC will provide Jubilee with the perfect opportunity of muzzling the media.
Dealing with the Opposition
Jubilee has made it clear that they intend to rule Kenya for the next 100 years. CPC has managed to maintain a strong grip on the realms of power with minimal if any resistance from the opposition. One way CPC has achieved this goal is by instilling the party ideologies on young minds. Jubilee will learn a great deal from the Chinese on how to introduce a curriculum that preaches its ideology to young minds.
How To Cling To Power For 50 Plus Years
Jubilee is intoxicated with power and what a better way to retain it than learning from CPC. The newly formed Uhuruto outfit has made it clear in public forums of its intent of ruling Kenya for the next 100 years. This has been best exemplified by the ‘buying’ of opposition leaders. CPC will share workable ideas of how to cling to power with little resistance.
With the new constitution in place, it will be a herculean task for Jubilee to replicate the repression witnessed in Kenya. But if they succeed, the lot of Boniface Mwangi and Cyprian Nyakundi will find themselves in a lot of trouble.
