Getting married to a ready-made man who earns a six figure paycheck is every girls dream. This attitude has born the new and now accepted ‘sponsors’ effect-that’s older men spoiling young women with expensive gifts for bodily pleasures. Kenyan wannabe socialites perfectly fit this category. Interestingly, CEOs who are worth millions (and in some cases billions) are married to women who are equally ambitious go-getters. They are the forces behind their men success.
We take a look at wives of Kenyan CEOs and their day to day hustles.
Bob Collymore And Wambui Wamae Kamiru
Guyana-British born Robert William Collymore is the current CEO of Safaricom Limited whose stewardship of the giant telco has been nothing short of sterling. Mr. Collymore has held this position since 2010. In 2015, he revealed he earns a monthly salary of Sh10 million. The telecommunication CEO wed Wambui Kamiru in an invite only wedding at the up market Kitusuru area in Nairobi. Wambui is an art dealer and artist. She is the founder of The Art Space which is an independent commercial art gallery and art space. The gallery is situated on Riverside Drive in Nairobi. The couple met in 2011 during a fundraiser for Msongari school bus survivors. She attended Loreto Msongari, University of Maryland in Baltimore for a Bachelor’s degree and got her Masters at Oxford University.
James Mwangi And Jane Njuguna
James Mwangi is the CEO of Equity Bank Kenya. He is married to Jane Njuguna and they have four sons. His wife has shares in Equity Group Holdings Limited and British American Insurance Company Limited (Britam). As of October 2014, their net worth was estimated to be approximately 170 million dollars. Jane Njuguna holds more than Sh3.2 billion in Britam and Equity shares as distinct investor.
James Mworia and Joan Mworia
James Mworia is the CEO of Centum investment. With a salary of 16.7 million a month, James is one of the richest CEO’s in Kenya. James started from humble beginnings and he has been able to rise through the ranks to reach the top. The Law degree holder is married to hotelier Joan Mworia. Joan owns several hotels in Nanyuki. The couple has a son.
Jeremy Awori and Jennifer Awori
Jeremy Awori is the CEO of Barclays Kenya. He is married to Jennifer Awori who works for Intouch relocations. They have three children. Jennifer is the Managing Director of the Kenyan branch but she worked for the Dubai branch in the past. She has five years experience in relocations. However, she has a background Media Sales and general management. She has worked in the media industry for more than 10 years.
Bharat Thakrar And Sadhna Thakrar
Bharat Thakrar is the CEO of ScanGroup. He is married to Sadhna Thakrar and she is listed as joint owner of his 51.8 million shares in his marketing services firm which is worth two billion.
Simon Gicharu And Judy Nyutu
Simon Gicharu is the founder and chairman of Mt.Kenya University and he is married to Judy Nyutu. Jane Nyutu supported her husband when he was jobless by housing him at the Mang’u High School where she was teaching and allowed him to sell their family rental house. The proceeds of the sale of the house were used to build a school which was part of the genesis of Mt. Kenya University. The couple has three children.
Sam Shollei And Glady Boss Shollei
Sam Shollei is The Standard Media Group CEO and husband to the controversial Gladys Boss Shollei who needs to introduction. However, just to draw a mental picture, she is the current Women Rep candidate for Jubilee in Uasin Gishu. The former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary has a Masters of Law specializing in maritime environment law from the University of Cape Town. She has also worked with UNEP, National Council of Law, IIEC among other top ranking companies. The couple has children.
Simon Kabu and Sarah Kabu
The CEO of Bonfire Adventure Mr Simon Kabu knows the importance of a strong woman and does not shy away from appreciating her in the full glare of the cameras. Kabu surprised his wife Mrs Sarah Kabu with a brand new Range Rover during her birthday. This was to appreciate his wife and co-founder of one of the most successful tours, travel and Events Company in Africa.
