Most Kenyans will agree with a report released by the World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI) ranking Kenya police as the third worst in the world.
Nigeria police are ranked as the worst followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with fourth worst position going to our neighbor Uganda.
Kenya police have a reputation of using excessive force where such is not required. Extra judicial killings are common place giving the public very little confidence with the police.
The report prepared by the International Police Science Association (IPSA) and the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) ranks Botswana as the best in Africa and at position 47 in the world. Rwanda, Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa and Mali take position 2-10 respectively.
Top ten best ranked police officers are from Singapore, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Germany, Australia, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland in that order.
