Dennis Muigai Ngengi has been arrested barely 48 hours after he witnessed Governor Wahome Gakuru grisly accident.
The ‘professional’ eyewitness, who became an overnight sensation, was arrested in Naivasha by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Naivasha and taken to Nairobi.
Keen observers were able to place Ngengi at the Lake Nakuru plane crash where he granted Citizen TV an interview claiming that Apollo Malowa-the pilot-was his colleague and friend. He introduced himself as a ‘State pilot’, claims that have been dismissed by the police.
Hardly a month had passed since the Lake Nakuru crash, Dennis Muigai in his trademark Bluetooth sunglasses was recounting what had transpired before Governor’s Dr Wahome Gakuru’s was involved in a fatal road accident.
A confident Ngengi said his car was right behind the Governor’s Mercedes and he saw exactly what happened even disputing accounts of other eyewitnesses.
Police who interrogated him said he was a con who drove to the scene of the accident to speak to the media. It is not clear what he wanted to achieve by speaking to the media.
His car has been confiscated.
